Michael joined BIA after many years in the investment, commercial and private banking fields. After earning degrees at Yale, INSEAD and Columbia Business School he began his career on Wall Street with Smith Barney & Company. This led to postings in Paris, Frankfurt, Geneva and London where he became a vice president in Citicorp’s Investment Bank. Over the past fifteen years, he has worked exclusively in Central and Eastern Europe. He was the Investment Manager of Robert Fleming’s Deutschland Investment Corp., a private equity fund for the former GDR listed on the London and Berlin stock exchanges. He subsequently was in charge of privatization teams under the EU Phare programs in Romania and Slovenia.
From 1994-97, as Senior Banker at the EBRD, Michael focused on project finance work in Moscow and Kaliningrad. From 1997-1999 He was MD for the corporate finance team of PricewaterhhouseCoopers in Warsaw. For more than five years he has lived and worked in St. Petersburg and Bucharest as Senior EU Financial Adviser to the SME sector. He is presently Senior Adviser to the Russian Venture Capital Association, a Director of several funds and a ‘Liveryman’ member of the Guild of International Bankers.
