Martin brings more than 40 years’ experience in financial services to BIA. He began his career in 1969 at Dominion Securities, a Canadian stock brokerage company, later moving to Merrill Lynch International where he worked as a Eurobond broker in London and Geneva. In 1976 he moved to the London merchant banking subsidiary of Continental Illinois National Bank and Trust, in the capacity of Euromarket Syndicate Manager. After 10 years in the international bond market, Martin moved to the bank’s Cayman Island based international offshore trust subsidiary, Continental Illinois International Investment Corporation, to market the bank’s Trust Department services to high net worth international investors. Particular emphasis was placed on the Trust Real Properties area, and in that capacity he traveled extensively throughout Europe, the Middle East and the United States, while based in London.
In 1982 Martin joined the London board of Textainer Limited, now one of the world’s largest freight container fleet operators. Martin originated a program for container investment in compliance with Islamic law, and in 1982 moved to Dubai, UAE, to open Textainer’s Gulf office. Following his residence in Dubai, he moved to the United States and established his own successful commercial real estate brokerage and property management companies. He subsequently has served in the commercial real estate industry in Florida, in positions with Marcus & Millichap, the Pocklington, Pocklington & Forster Retail Investment Group and Cushman & Wakefield.
In early 2011, Martin joined Hold-Thyssen, a 35-year old firm with offices in Orlando, Tampa, Boca Raton, Nashville and Munich, specializing in the acquisition, disposition leasing and management of commercial real estate on behalf of European institutions and private investors, mainly from Germany.
Martin holds the Certified Commercial Investment Member designation of the CCIM Institute, recognizing expertise in commercial real estate investment analysis, valuation, brokerage, leasing and asset management. Long a member of the Florida CCIM Chapter, Martin recently chaired the Scholarship Committee liaising with Florida’s major universities. He is a frequent editorial contributor and commentator for a range of real estate and business publications, including the CCIM Institute’s Commercial Investment Real Estate magazine, The Florida Real Estate Journal, The Orlando Business Journal, Orlando Sentinel and Southeast Real Estate Business.
