Don was elected to the BIA Board of Directors in September 2010. He previously was co-founder and partner in The Allen Group, an investor relations consulting firm based in Laguna Hills, Calif. Prior to forming the consultancy he served in several IR and corporate relations management posts in Southern California, including vice president of corporate communications for Incuity Software (now part of Rockwell Automation) and director of IR and communications for Quest Software, FileNET Corp., and Wonderware Corporation.
Previously, Don held corporate PR and IR management posts with Xerox Corporation in New York and with Digital Equipment Corporation in Boston. He began his career as a journalist with United Press International. He holds a BA degree from the University at Albany (N.Y.) has studied for his MBA at the University of Southern California and has completed the Advanced IR Program at the Goizueta School of Business at Emory University.
Don served for four years on the Board of Directors of the National Investor Relations Institute (NIRI) and for three years as the board liaison to the Canadian Investor Relations Institute (CIRI). He is a past president of the Orange County (Calif.) Chapter of NIRI and now serves on the NIRI Kansas City Chapter’s Board of Directors. He served on the board of the Forum for Corporate Directors (FCD) in Southern California. He was a course developer and instructor in investor relations at the Paul Merage School of Business at the University of California, Irvine; has been a guest instructor in IR and corporate governance at the Argyros School of Business & Economics at Chapman University; and a visiting instructor at California State University, Fullerton. He has been a guest lecturer for investor relations seminars conducted by NIRI, CIRI, the Nasdaq Stock Market, American Electronics Assn., the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) and the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC). He is an author of the book “The New Investor Relations: Expert Perspectives on the State of the Art,” published by Bloomberg Press, and has published numerous magazine articles on investor relations and corporate communication.
